Please remember, flytipping is a criminal offence with a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison or an unlimited fine !!

When seen we will publish photographs and videos of flytippers disposing of their rubbish on the streets of our community.

Our aim is to stop our Semilong Northampton neighbourhood looking like a rubbish tip.

Semilong Northampton Litter Lout 1

This LITTER LOUT casually threw his litter on the ground with no regard to the people who live, work or pass through Semilong Northampton.

Litter is a permanent problem in our neighbourhood and despite it costing thousands to clear up, some people think it is still alright to throw there litter on the ground.

Our aim is to make these litter louts think twice about using Semilong Northampton streets as a litter bin and to reduce the amount of litter that our residents have to put up with.

As this map of reported crime shows, our Semilong Northampton neighbourhood is a crime hotspot, with the crime rate figures never falling below the HIGH mark.

Our aim is to help to reduce that figure by highlighting the publiscised crime in our neighbourhood.

We will also support the Semilong Neighbourhood Watch Scheme.

"Fortress Semilong Northampton"

It seems odd doesn't it, to speak about elements in Semilong northampton being so security conscious that it becomes a problem. Nevertheless, this is what has happened.

Barricades

The first example are the barricades across the road on Lower Harding Terrace in order to stop the kerb-crawlers cruising the streets to pick and choose a prostitute.

Have they worked?

According to Northamptonshire Police own figures, kerb-crawling for prostitutes continues to be a problem. So the barricades have not stopped the problem just reduced it.

Have they hindered navigating around our community?

Yes of course. Sometimes due to inconsiderate parking, cars have to reverse up hill along Hampton Street and then drive along Harding Terrace, Leslie Road, Lower Adelaide Street, Semilong Road, Gordon Street till they can then get onto St Andrews Road.

The barricades also give the wrong impression to residents and visitors that we are a "community under siege". That we have had to barricade ourselves in. Nothing short of crazy thinking and the sooner they are taken away the better.

Ten Foot High Metal Fence Tops Wall

Another example is the Gateway Centre on Mill Road. This is a Bangladeshi community centre that was built about 3 years ago in the grounds of Castle School. Considering it is a community centre, why does it have a 8-10 foot high wall surrounding it, topped by metal fencing? Shouldn't a community centre be part of the general community rather than feel it has to secure itself against the community?

Is this the right impression that should be given to anyone visiting our community? Also as SEMILONG.ORG have shown, security and crime prevention go hand in hand with visibility.

We, as a community together, can make a difference.
